Background: The Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labeling of Chemicals (GHS) is an internationally agreed-upon system, created by the United Nation beginning in 1992 and as of 2015 is not yet fully implemented in many countries. It was designed to replace the various classification and labeling standards used in different countries by using consistent criteria on a global level. The aim of GHS is to ensure a better protection of human health and the environment during the handling of chemicals, including their transport and use.

-to give the trainees an overview about GHS and the methodology on how to implement the (GHS).

Target Audience: The National technical officials responsible for or involved in hazardous Waste Management. There were 14 participants from 9 Arab countries attended this workshop: Arab Republic of Egypt, Kuwait, Lebanese Republic, Palestinian Authority, the Republic of Sudan, Jordan, Mauritania and Yemen
Outcome: After the theoretical lectures and practical exercises the participants became well-aware of how to implement the systems
Recommendations: Many of the trainees mentioned that they want to repeat the training programme several more times.
